What is Certified Board Member (CBM) training program?

HHJ offers courses on board work and chairmanship in both Finnish and English.

The Certified Board Member (CBM) training program is a Finnish nationwide initiative developed by the Tampere Chamber of Commerce and the Board Professionals Association in 2005 to promote and develop board work. It is organized by all Finnish Chambers of Commerce.

CBM board training inspires companies to initiate and enhance their board work while introducing new ideas and best practices. The program also supports the growth and competitiveness of SMEs. Thanks to CBM training, thousands of Finnish companies have discussed leadership development, improved their board operations, encouraged the recruitment of external experts to boards, and taken significant steps forward in their business development.

The CBM program consists of the following components:

  • CBM Introduction Course

  • CBM Course

  • CBM Chairperson Course

  • CBM Exam

  • CBM Pro

  • National and Regional Alumni Meetings

These training modules complement each other, with the CBM course forming the foundation. The CBM course is an effective and practical knowledge package for those involved in or interested in board work. It is particularly suitable for CEOs, entrepreneurs, senior executives, financiers, and board members of municipal companies.

To date, 17,500 participants have completed the CBM course, which has received excellent feedback and high recommendations. Graduates are eligible to take the CBM exam and earn the prestigious CBM title, signifying their expertise in board work. Currently, there are almost 8,700 CBM graduates.
